Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think it's a isolated island to the west of Montreal although in actual fact, the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the town of Lachine west. There is an argument that it was the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was short. Brugel was born in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer but due to her rapid increase in her height, she surpassed all of her dancing colleagues. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. After I reached the point of outgrowing male dance partners, I stopped. Former dancers often turn to acting, and Brugel was no exception. A drama teacher at her high school encouraged her in the direction she needed. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out in the role of Anne in their annual school production. After trying out it, she was cast as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. This resulted in the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on both screens, receiving the greatest attention when she was cast as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian participant in Season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
